RDOG: Responsible Dog Ownership Group
This program began in 2005, in response to community concern about the growing population of dogs in Teton County. RDOG is a coalition of PAWS board members, community officials and concerned citizens who have a vision of a dog friendly community where responsible dog ownership is the norm and where dogs live in harmony with the environment.
For this vision to be realized, an ethic of respect for pets, people, private property, and public places must become the norm in Teton County.
RDOG sponsors public service media campaigns that highlight various “responsible pet ownership” themes throughout the year. It is our hope that these very important issues stay top of mind with our residents.
Currently, Jackson is home to over 10,000 dogs, all of which require regular exercise and socialization. Although there are many public parks in our town, none allows dogs on the premises. Most dog owners take advantage of the fantastic trails in our area, but due to the sheer number of dogs, there is congestion and sometimes conflict with wildlife and other trail users.
The next logical extension of PAWS’ support of our community is the development of a town dog park. It is our belief that a dog park would benefit dog owners and non-dog owners alike. A park would provide an outlet for dogs that spend the majority of their time on a leash in town. In addition, it would help alleviate some of the congestion we see on town pathways.
PAWS is actively working with the Town of Jackson and other special interest groups to develop such a park. We are discussing a few options and hope to have a park ready soon. Stay tuned!
